Simultaneously with the evening of the demise anniversary of the Holy Prophet (pbuh) of Islam and the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hassan Mojtaba (AS), the traditional Khotbeh Khani ceremony (mourning plus eulogy while carrying candles) was held on the night of the martyrdom of Imam Reza (AS).

The ceremony was held after evening and night prayers in the presence of Hoj. Ahmad Marvi, the chief custodian of Astan Quds Razavi and a group of servants in the courtyard of Enqelab Eslami.
It was held in a limited way due to the coronavirus outbreak and in order to follow the health protocols.
At the beginning of the ceremony, Haj Waliollah Kalami Zanjani recited poetry and chanted lamentations for the eighth Imam and then, Hoj Marvi addressed the gathering of servants.
The AQR servants holding lighted candles, circled in the courtyard of Enqelab Eslami and while chanting and mourning and reciting the special supplication of this night, including testifying to the unity of the divine essence, praise of the God and the Prophet (pbuh) as well as greetings to the Infallible Imams (AS), martyrs and Imam Khomeini, and also wishing the health of the Revolution’s Leader, expressed condolences to Imam Reza (AS) and Imam Mahdi (AS).
The traditional ritual of Khotbeh Khani is more than 300 years old, which is held every year on the night of Ashura and the night of the martyrdom of Imam Reza (AS) in his holy shrine in Mashhad.
