Historian Saeed Rashid Zemizem pointed out that some historians claim that the first dome built in Islam was the dome of the Rock Mosque in Jerusalem, while others claim that the first dome built in Islam was the dome of the shrine of Imam Hussein, peace be upon him.

Zumayzim, an assistant to the head of the museum department at the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine, said in an interview with the official website, “The sublime dome of the Imam Hussein shrine (peace be upon him) is one of the most important symbols in the Holy Husseini shrine, and this dome went through many stages, and the first dome was constructed for the Hussaini Mosque was a year (66) Hijri according to an order by Al-Mukhtar Al-Thaqafi at the time, and historians and recognized scholars state that the first dome built in Islam was the Dome of the Rock Mosque in Jerusalem, pointing out that this information is incorrect and that the dome of the Mosque of the Rock was built in (72) Hijri.

He explained that “the currently blessed dome of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him) is considered one of the ancient (archaeological) symbols and has gone through multiple historical stages of reconstruction, vandalism, demolition, and theft, especially during the Wahhabi attack on the holy city of Karbala and the shrine of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him) in the year ( 1801) AD, (1216) for immigration.

He continued, “After the loyal and loving people of the city responded to the expulsion of Wahhabism, the Sultan (Fath Ali Shah), one of the Qajar shahs, allocated the necessary funds and sent them to Karbala with several architects to restore the dome, as this incident is the first operation to reconstruct the dome of the shrine of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him) at that time”.

He continued, “In the year (1954 AD), the Saden of the Husseini Mosque, Al-Mutahhar Abdul Saleh Al-Kelidar, placed and opened windows inside the blessed dome, while some maintenance and maintenance matters were carried out to preserve its cultural and historical position.”

And he indicated that the dome witnessed in (2006) works of re-cladding with pure gold by order of the supreme religious authority, Sayyid Ali al-Husseini al-Sistani, and under the supervision and direction of the representative of the supreme religious authority and the legal tutor of the Holy Hussaini shrine, Sheikh Abdul Mahdi al-Karbalai.

It is noteworthy that Al-Mukhtar Al-Thaqafi (Al-Mukhtar bin Abi Ubayd), born one year after immigration, is a military commander who demanded revenge for Imam Hussein (peace be upon him) and killed a group of his killers who were in Kufa and other such as Omar bin Saad, Ubaid Allah bin Ziyad, Harmala bin Kahal and Shammar Bin Dhi Al-Jushan, and others, as when he assumed the rule of Kufa, the slogan was raised: “Oh, to the revolts of Al-Hussein.” And he was buried in Kufa near its mosque, as for the dome of the Al-Sakhrah Mosque, it was built by Abd al-Malik bin Marwan, as he began building it in 66 AH and completed it in the year 72 AH. The engineers Rajaa bin Haywa al-Kindi supervised its construction, and Yazid bin Salam, Mawla Abd al-Malik Bin Marwan.
